Atascosa County considers itself the birthplace of the cowboys and you can trace their roots as far back as the 1860s. The Longhorn Museum is perfect for history buffs who wish to brush up on local history. The museum displays written excerpts, documents, portraits, and artifacts that portray the history of Atascosa County. The museum dedicates considerable effort in recording the area as the "Birthplace of the Cowboy".

Part of "The Sugarland Express", film was shot around the intersection of Commerce and 2nd Street. The "Cowboy Homecoming Festival" is hosted every October at the Atascosa River Park to commemorate the period when cowboys returned home after driving cattle from South Texas to the railheads up north. Apart from Atascosa rich culture and heritage, locals have easy access to great healthcare facilities. The Methodist Hospital South is currently the only hospital in Atascosa County.

Pleasanton Schools

Pleasanton residents have access to great educational opportunities. Located in the outstanding Pleasanton ISD, the community is home to Pleasanton High School. Jourdanton ISD serves a small section of the town. Coastal Bend College of Beeville manages a two-year campus branch in Pleasanton.
