San Antonio is home to two Texas landmarks. One, of course, is the Alamo, and the other is the tallest structure south of Houston, the Tower of the Americas. But we’re talking about skyscraper buildings here, and the Tower is the city’s famed observation deck. From up here, you can see these other Texas-sized buildings, the tallest skyscrapers in San Antonio.
1. Bank of America Plaza
At 387 feet, the BOA Plaza tower is the fifth-largest building in town. The building opened in 1984 as Interfirst Bank Plaza, and measures 28 stories.
2. The Tower Life Building
Perhaps the most beautiful, most “San Antonio” of the city’s skyscrapers is it’s fourth-largest building, the Tower Life Building. This landmark began construction in 1927 and opened in 1929. It is an eight-sided, neo-gothic, brick-and-terracotta tower, complete with gargoyles, and reaches 404 feet into the sky.
3. The Grand Hyatt San Antonio
This 34-story hotel features 1,000 rooms in Downtown San Antonio. Built in 2008, it is the tallest building constructed in the city during the 2000s. And though it is the city’s third-tallest building, at 424 feet, it is only the second-tallest hotel.
4. The Weston Centre
The 32-story modern-styled Weston Center is the city’s runner-up for tallest building, standing a mighty 444 feet. The Weston also is a popular model for exterior shots in film and television shows, including Knight Rider 2000 and That 70’s Show.
5. Marriott Rivercenter
Barring the Tower of the America’s, Marriott Rivercenter is the tallest building in San Antonio. At 622 feet, it is by far the tallest hotel in town and is the tallest hotel in Texas outside Dallas. The hotel, completed in 1988, is located across from the Riverwalk and is connected to the Rivercenter Mall.
