Looking to take the family out for a weekend of fun in the San Antonio area? Well you’re in luck, because there’s plenty to do in and around Bexar County
Theme Parks
If you’re in the market for thrills and spills, look no further than Six Flags® Fiesta Texas or one of the region’s two water parks, Splashtown San Antonio or Schlitterbahn Waterpark, which features The Falls, the world’s longest water ride. There’s also Morgan’s Wonderland, designed for individuals with special needs, but fun for everyone.
Green Acres Golf and Games has tons activities, from mini-golf to paintball, and Kiddie Park, America’s Oldest Children’s Amusement Park, features an old-fashioned Ferris wheel and hard-carved carousel animals
The Natural World
The San Antonio Zoo and Aquarium is the nation’s third-oldest zoo and the only zoo in the U.S. with a designated area for children age 5 and younger. The zoo also houses more than 8,500 animals. There is also Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch, which offers a safari-like driving experience. If the great outdoors is more your family’s speed, try the limestone adventures of Natural Bridge Caverns or the beauty of Cascade Caverns (featuring a 100-foot waterfall). Wonder World Park in nearby San Marcos features an observation tower, an anti-gravity house, and a petting park.
Culture
San Antonio’s main cultural attraction, of course, is the Alamo, which is more than just a history lesson for kids and parents. Just two blocks away is the Buckhorn Saloon & Museum, featuring exhibits on Texas ranch life and the Texas Rangers (the lawmen, not the baseball team). The three-floored San Antonio Children’s Museum offers loads of interactive exhibits including the Tot Spot, where kids and adults play and learn together. Magik Theatre specializes in kid-friendly productions of classic and contemporary children’s literature. And the Witte Museum H-E-B Science Treehouse (yes, a real tree house) has four floors of hands-on exhibits overlooking the San Antonio River.
Other FunUp for a game of laser tag? Try Laser Legend entertainment center, near the Alamo and Riverwalk. Or you can also try something ghoulish at Louis Tussaud’s Wax Works or Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum. Then take the Amazing Mirror Maze Challenge, all right near the cradle of Texas democracy itself. Posted by Richard Soto on
