A multipurpose building project for Texas A&M University-San Antonio was approved on Friday, March 26th. The project is scheduled to begin in April, and planned for completion by July, 2011. The building will occupy 700 acres of land between Zarzamora and Moursund Roads on the south side of Loop 410. The 91,000 square foot building will house the University library, the bookstore, student services, classrooms, faculty, administrative offices, a computer center, labs, and a food service facility. Despite a slowly recovering economy, San Antonio expects to see a moderate increase in new construction (about 6 percent) in 2010, mostly public works and utility projects.

Phase Two of the RiverWalk Crossing project is now taking shape, although some unforeseen weather circumstances have slowed down the process a bit. Unusually wet weather conditions over the last few months have pushed the completed date to June, although it appears as if progress is starting to take shape.  Many construction companies have noted that the wet weather conditions are unlike any other they have experienced. In fact, many construction companies have said that it was one of the worse years for wet weather-related delays to date.

The Bexar County Appraisal District is taking the national economy mess into its own hands by lowering or freezing property appraisals in Bexar County. Although San Antonio certainly hasn't been hit has hard as other areas of the country when it comes to the housing market decline and the credit crisis, there are signs that Bexar County is struggling, and will continue to do so in the upcoming year.

The Bexar County Appraisal District certainly considered this sobering statistic when they decided to drop the average residential property appraisal value by two percent, compared to 2008. Once home to the wild Native Americans of the Southern Plains, Bexar County is now home to some of the biggest economic growth in all of Texas. The urban hub of San Antonio enjoys a booming manufacturing industry and expansion in the medical field, creating thousands of jobs and drawing new residents to the area.
