5 of the Best Pizza Shops in San Antonio

Don’t make the mistake of thinking there’s no such this as excellent pizza in San Antonio. Because there really, really is.

Chain restaurants seldom get the notice they deserve when they’re good. But Grimaldi’s corners the market on what real New York pizza tastes like. Not what New York-style pizza tastes like, what actual New York pizza tastes like. The company filters local water so that its chemical composition matches that of the water in New York (which actually is considered the among cleanest and best-tasting in the country), so that the crust comes out exactly right. If you’re from the East Coast, taste this little slice of home, it doesn’t get any more authentic (or delicious) than this. Locations at Quarry Village and La Cantera.

 Dough Pizzeria

Named cleverly after its owner, (Doug Horn, or DougH), Dough offers a range of super-delicious pizzas made with enough TLC to spare. More than just tasty pizza, this is a community restaurant. Try to not feel like part of the family here, we dare you. This is a true neighborhood pizzeria.

Alamo Pizza

Come on, could there NOT be a great pizza shop in San Antonio called Alamo? Alamo has been open since 2001 and is a haven for delicious pizza in town. It also serves award-winning wings and a bevy of appetizers to help you wash down that pie.

Julian’s Italian Pizzeria & Kitchen

Yes, Julian’s has dynamite pizza. But it’s also known for its array of pizzeria staples like calzone and southern Italian pasta dishes that will make you want to sing their praises in opera. If you just want a slice, bring your appetite, because Julian’s doesn’t skimp on the slices.

Owned by a husband and wife from New Jersey, Florio’s was built on old-fashioned, apprentice-style learning. What started as a luncheonette back east got a makeover into a pizzeria, and when it got t San Antonio, it brought the best of Jersey flavor with it. It’s the most authentic Jersey pizza (also known as the best pizza) in town. Posted by Richard Soto on
