Hidden Gems in San Antonio

Posted by VIP Realty on Wednesday, January 25th, 2017 at 12:11pm.

Venturing off the beaten path is usually a good thing in a place like San Antonio. Like any great city, it’s got its share of hidden gems and best-kept secrets that usually delight whoever finds them.

Hogwild Records Tapes & CDs

Believe it or not, some record stores still exist and even thrive, Hogwild is one of these beacons for the music fan. It’s San Antonio's premier record store. Casual yet knowledgeable; knowing yet daring. It’s easy to get lost in Hogwild’s acres of vintage records, where you’ll find everything from gospel to 70s metal. There’s also a top-notch selection of Texas music on vinyl, tape, and CD from all eras.

Ocho Lounge at Hotel Havana

Unless you’re a guest, you’ve probably never thought much of Hotel Havana. But you should, if only to visit Ocho Lounge. Set inside a glass conservatory overlooking the Riverwalk, Ocho serves from breakfast through late-night snack with a menu rooted in the hotel’s pan-Latin cultural influences from Mexico, Cuba, and Texas. Tequila and rum are high on the cocktails list, and the coffee is some of the best you’ll taste.

The Pearl Brewery Running Trail

If the crowds on the Riverwalk are a little too crowding and you still want to enjoy some trail time with great views, try the Pearl Brewery Running Trail. It’s a lightly trafficked gem that wends around downtown and yet stays with the beautiful natural scenery. It’s a perfect place for a walk without the tourists.

Two Bros. BBQ Market

San Antonio is the capital of barbecue, but even here, few joints put in the work the Two Bros. do. Award-winning brisket, cherry glazed baby back ribs, turkey, chicken thighs, chopped beef, and pulled pork are all on the menu and all are just … so good. It’s classic Texas BBQ with a “down home” market twist
